Discussion on gender bending
The perfect man, the perfect woman, the ideal we are told to aspire to, the norms against which our existences are validated. If gender roles are a control mechanism, then it makes sense that what they represent should be unattainable - being a man or a woman should be a quest without end ; our shame of not being perfect thus becoming a tool for reinforcing gender as we try to shame others to make ourselves feel more acceptable.
If the ideal of gender is not attainable, then we are all, in our own ways, transgressing gender. If you are interested in talking about and sharing the different ways in which we bend and transgress gender, come along to this discussion. Feel free to bring texts or other material you would like to share.
